Axiom Mission ILEE

What is a Mission Statement? A Mission Statement as defined by Webster is something that states the purpose or goal of a business or organization. In short, it states why an organization exists.

I’ve had the pleasure of working for several esteemed organizations over the years. I read their mission statements dozens of times. But if you were to ask me to recite it to you today, I couldn’t begin to start the first sentence.

This is the beauty of Axiom’s Mission Statement. ILEE. Improving Lives, Exceeding Expectations! 4 words that summarize beautifully what we strive to do each and every day at our facilities. 4 words that I will never forget!

Improving Lives is what we do every day. It’s the core of our business. We must provide excellent care, delicious food, clean facilities, and superior therapy services to name just a few. Is it important that we excel in each of these areas. You bet. If we aren’t providing superior care and service we are simply failing.

On May 30, four of our facilities were awarded 2024 AHCA/NCAL Baldridge Quality Awards. These awards are given annually to the top facilities across the nation. Award examiners look at the systems facilities have in place and the results they produce which demonstrate the best in care and service. Of the 9 Axiom facilities that have had the opportunity to apply, 9 have now been decorated. I believe this demonstrates the Axiom Commitment to Improving Lives!

Exceeding Expectations is what makes us special. It’s the little things. It’s knowing what our residents want before they even have to ask for it. Exceeding Expectations is creating WOW Moments!

When I was the Executive Director at Derby Health and Rehab, we had a cook who noticed one of our residents wasn’t as happy go lucky as normal. She asked him if he was alright. He stated, “it’s my anniversary, and this will be the first time in 40 years I have not been able to take my wife out for a candlelight dinner”.

After lunch our cook sprang into action. She went home to grab candles, champagne glasses, and her finest dinnerware. She prepared a special dinner for the couple and moved a table to the corner of the dining room where they enjoyed their 40th Anniversary candle light dinner! That was a WOW moment! That is what exceeding expectations is all about!

Our Mission is built on our Guiding Virtues. We strive to live by these virtues every day in each of our communities.

Axiom Guiding Virtues:

1. I inspire faith, hope, and love

2. I build trusting and meaningful relationships

3. I make it safe so there is peace of mind

4. I am enthusiastic playful and fun

5. I am creative and innovative

6. I embrace and inspire positive change

7. I build a positive team with spirit

8. I pursue growth and learning

9. I am responsible and follow through

10. I practice humility and compassion

Before I came to work for Axiom, I did some background research on the company and stumbled upon the Guiding Virtues. I looked at the list and thought to myself, if I can knock out 2 or 3 of those each day, I’ll never have a bad day of work.

At each Axiom facility, we stress a different Guiding Virtue each month. It is meant not only to remind our staff what we stand for, but also to celebrate our success in carrying out these important virtues. We want to make sure it’s not just a sign on the wall, but an ideology truly guiding our care and service.

I fell blessed to work for a senior care company that truly lives by their Mission Statement. It’s not always easy, and we surely make mistakes, but the bottom line is that we truly do work to Improve Lives and Exceed Expectations each and every day.
